Half Day Pompeii and Naples Tour
Your journey begins with a scenic ride to Naples, the 3rd largest city in Italy and the regional capital of Campania. Upon arrival you will stop to admire the Duomo di San Gennaro, the city's famous 14th century Gothic Cathedral. While here, pay a visit to Basilica Santa Restituta, a 6th century church on the cathedral grounds that was dedicated to Saint Restituta and incorporated into the Duomo when the cathedral was built.
At the town hall square you will see the New Castle built by the French family on Anjou, then make your way to the Posillipo area for the bet views of Naples and the bay from the terrace of Santa Antonio Church. From there you will return to the city center in Plebiscite square where you will see the front of the Royal Palace, the neoclassic St. Francesco di Paola church, Umberto I Gallery and the San Carlo theatre.
Continue on to the ancient city of Pompeii, a flourishing seaside city of 20,000 residents before Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. This eruption smothered its buildings and inhabitants with suffocating ash and pumice, leaving behind a perfectly preserved city with intact buildings, natural molds of bodies and everyday common items such as food. Your tour guide will take you around to some of the more interesting places in the city such as The Forum, Vetti's house, and the Lupanar, the city's most famous brothel with erotic paintings on its walls. Guests must be able to walk over cobblestones and uneven surfaces, inclines and steps. Guests should be in good physical condition with the ability to walk uphill or climb stairs. The tour itinerary may be reversed but always covering the mentioned sights. Guests must be able to get in and out of transportation. In that role, Mr. Miller was responsible for contributing to Abercrombie & Kent's international growth through the development and acquisition of tour products and travel experiences around the world with a specific focus on cruising and land based experiences. Prior to joining Abercrombie & Kent, Mr. Miller held a variety of executive positions with Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises for more than a decade. These positions included Vice President of Guest Sales & Service, Vice President of Brand Development, and Vice President of Onboard Revenue (which included shore excursions). Mr. Miller also led Celebrity Expeditions, a collection of outstanding and unique tours around the World.
Michael Bonner
Mr. Bonner has over a decade of experience working in the cruise industry in a variety of roles for both Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Viking River Cruises. Most recently, Mr. Bonner was the Chief Operating Officer for The Scholar Ship, a Royal Caribbean program aimed at providing college students onboard educational programs in conjunction with enriching shore excursions around the world. Mr. Bonner also helped co-manage Viking River Cruises U.S. Operations, and he ran the corporate, strategic, and deployment planning functions at Royal Caribbean.
